Is ZTE ready for the high
The , whic {keyword} h essentially looks like a mini-Nexus, was plagued by slow internal and data speeds. The had a powerful 12-megapixel camera, but the resulting photos fell flat and its bulky design wasn't becoming. Don't get me wrong, there are a few things ZTE handsets do r {keyword} ight. First, I love that its phones hardly touch the original skin, especially with Ice Cream Sandwich. Running a nearly unsullied version of the OS keeps these devices sleek and clear of too much bloatware. Secondly, ZTE partners with many prepaid carriers, like M {keyword} etroPCS, Boost Mobile, and Cricket, which means people can experience the handsets contract-free. But if the manufacturer wants to really make a dent in the U.S. market, it needs to pour its resources in a few things first. Improve build qualityOne thing I liked about the Warp Sequent was its solid construction, which unfortunately is a bit rare for ZTE handsets. While I don't have anything against plastic, ZTE devices have a tendency to look and feel cheap and toylike. What's especially frustrating, however, is the poor screen sensitivity and resolution I consistently see. More often than not, a midrange ZTE phone will have an unresponsive display that'll require several taps to register an action. Though a low pixel resolution is forgivable if it comes along with a cheaper price, having a buggy touch screen is a sure-fire way to irritate users quickly. The ZTE Render shipped with an outdated OS weeks before the new OS debuted.(Credit:Josh Miller/CNET)

Perhaps the NHL s Jan. 11 deadline for a collective bargaining agreeme {keyword} nt has spurred talks. Perhaps the NHL Players Association threat to decertify as a union by midnight tonight has grabbed the league s attention. Either way, the NHL labor talks have fina {keyword} lly reached the point {keyword} where the two sides are exchanging proposals off the same document, where they re actually negotiating. The NHL spent yesterday reviewing the NHLPA s latest proposal, then made their own proposal to the players around 9 p.m. last night. After a 40 minute meeting, the two sides adjourned for the night so the players could review the league s offer. The fact that we re involved in a continuous process is something that I m glad to see, but we re clearly not done yet, NHL commissioner Gary Bettman told reporters in New York. It s up to the players association to come back to us now in response to what they ve been given this evening. More talks are expected today once the NHLPA gets a chance to see the finer points of the league's offer.

Redskins hope to follow Giants’, Packers’ paths to the Super Bowl
said after Sunday night s , which gave the Redskins their first division crown since the 1999 season. We ve just got to keep believing in each ot {keyword} her and just getting it done and just playing out our game plan to perfection like we ve been doing. As the NFC s fourth seed, the Redskins will host the fifth-seeded Seattle Seahawks in a first-round playoff game Sunday that they hope will put them in the footsteps of last season s New York Giants and the Green Bay Packers of 2010. Those teams just managed to squeeze into the playoffs, then kept winning on their way to Super Bowl triumphs. We have a chance to be that team, Redskins tight end said. But everyone s hot. Seattle is hot right now. There are a lot of good teams in the NFC. The thing that I think is that we ve had to win every single game since 3-6. That s the way it s played out. It bodes well for us. We ve embraced that. We ve looked at it like everything s an elimination game. And it s elevated our level of play. Last season s Giants beat the Cowboys in the final Sunday night game of the regular season to win the NFC East, just as this season s Redskins did. Those Giants, like these Redskins, were the NFC s fourth seed for the playoffs. The Giants won their final two games to finish the regular season with a modest record of 9-7. Their play improved steadily from ther {keyword} e, and they won three NFC playoff games before beating the New England Patriots to secure a second Super Bowl title for Coach and quarterback . In the 2010 season, the Packers were a wild-card team and the sixth and final seed in the NFC playoffs. They went on the road to Philadelphia, Atlanta and Chicago to beat the three top seeds in the NFC playoffs on their way to a Super Bowl victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers.NFL teams annually spend the regular season chasing the first-round playoff byes that go to the two top seeds in each conference. This season, that s Denver and New England in the AFC and Atlanta and San Francisco in the NFC.But should that be the goal? Though statistically , five of the last seven Super Bowl champions have played in the first round of the playoffs. That includes the Steelers in the 2005 season, the Indianapolis Colts in the 06 season, the Giants in the 07 season, the Packers in the 201 {keyword} 0 season and the Giants again last season. That can be problematic at times, when the last two weeks don t matter and then all of a sudden the next game <in>the playoffs] matters incredibly, Redskins defensive tackle Barry Cofield, a member of the Super Bowl-winning Giants team in the 2007 season, said recently.

Trevor Blondin delivers at charity stripe for Battlefield in Bulldog Bash championship
who deflated the home fans, scoring {keyword} six of his team-high 24 points to help Battlefield (8-4) open up an early lead. But Westfield (6-5) rallied, converting several Battlefield turnovers into easy transition buckets and building a 22-17 first-quarter lead.In a game characterized by its runs, the Bobcats struck back, riding Blondin s seven points during a 12-2 run to take a 38-32 lead into the half.Glover built on that momentum in the third, draining two of the Bobcats four three-pointers in the quarter to extend their advan {keyword} tage to 10 points. They were sagging off of Jamison, so I told him he had to step up for us and take advantage of that space by making some plays, Battlefield Coach Kurt Pauly said. He really caught fire there in the third. The lead wouldn t last, though, thanks to cold shooting from the Bobcats and inspired play by Westfield s . During a seven-minute field goal drought for Battlefield, Walton scored eight of his game-high 25 points, sparking a 17-1 Bulldogs run that gave Westfield a four-point lead midway through the fourth. But Blondin refused to let Battlefield settle for another second-place finish. The junior swingman punctuated a 10-0 Bobcat run with the go-ahead three-pointer. After he knocked down his clutch free throws, last-gasp three-pointer just missed the mark, and the Bobcats could cel {keyword} ebrate their fourth straight win and the tournament title. We knew Westfield was a quality team and I told our guys they could go on a run, Pauly said, but we kept our composure in a way that we probably wouldn t have in years past.

Gaza: Clinton works for truce 'in the days ahead'
Israeli air strikes shook the Gaza Strip and Palestinian rockets struck across the border as U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton held talks in Jerusalem in the early hours of Wednesday, seeking a truce that can hold back Israel's ground troops.
Hamas, the Islamist movement controlling Gaza, and Egypt, whose new, Islamist government is trying to broker a truce, had floated air max shoes hopes for a ceasefire by late Tuesday; but by the time Clinton met Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu it was clear there would be more argument, and more violence, first.
Hamas leaders in Cairo accused the Jewish state of failing to respond to proposals and said an announcement on holding fire would not come before daylight on Wednesday. Israel Radio quoted an Israeli official saying a truce was held up due to "a last-minute delay in the understandings between Hamas and Israel".
Who is Hamas? 5 questions about the Palestinian militant group.
An initial halt to attacks may, however, not see the sides stand their forces down from battle stations immediately; Clinton, who flies to Cairo to see Egyptian President Mohamed Mursi later on Wednesday, spoke of a deal "in the days ahead".
As she arrived in Israel after nightfall, Israel was stepping up its bombardment. Artillery shells and missiles fired from naval gunboats offshore slammed into the territory and air strikes came at a frequency of about one every 10 minutes.
